CALGARY -- Team Canada will play the U.S. Women's Olympic Team on Nov. 10 in the third game of a three-game series between the top two teams in female hockey as they prepare to compete in the first-ever women's hockey tournament at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan.

The game follows a pair of matches between Canada and the U.S. in New Brunswick on Nov. 7- 8. The two teams last played in Kitchener in the gold-medal final of the Women's World Hockey Championship, when Canada won a 4-3 overtime thriller, powered by a three-goal performance by Nancy Drolet, who also scored the championship winner.

It was the fourth straight time the teams had met in the gold-medal game of the Women's World Championship, which Canada has won all four times it has been held. Tickets, priced at $12.75 and $16.75, are on sale at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium box office and through Ticketmaster

The Kitchener game comes one day before the Women's Olympic Team departs for Finland, where it will compete in a three-country tournament against Finland, bronze medalists at all four Women's World Hockey Championships, and Sweden, seeded fifth at the six-team Olympic tournament following their fifth-place finish at the 1997 Women's World Championship.

All the pre-Olympic games are important ones for Canada's Women's Olympic Team, which assembled in Calgary at the Royal Bank Canadian Hockey Centre to begin five months of preparation for the 1998 Winter Games. Twenty-eight Olympic hopefuls began the training camp at Father David Bauer Arena, but three players already have been released. Head coach Shannon Miller must still trim the roster down to 20 -- two goaltenders and 18 skaters -- by early December.

So far this season, Canada has fashioned a 6-1 won-lost record, with a pair of victories over the Chinese National Women's Team and four wins over Sweden. The only loss for Canada was a 5-4 defeat in a shootout against the United States on Oct. 25 in Salt Lake City, UT.

The two rivals will play each other 12 times during Canada's 27-game pre-Olympic schedule. They will face each other twice during the 3 Nations' Cup tournament in December in Lake Placid, as well as on Jan. 16 in Vancouver during the NHL All-Star Weekend and Jan. 26 in Calgary at the Saddledome.
