BARRIE, Ont. -- Goaltender Manon Rheaume was released Tuesday by Canada's National Women's Team, which is preparing to compete at the fourth Women's World Hockey Championship in Kitchener, ON from March -- April 6, head coach Shannon Miller announced.

Rheaume's deletion from the roster leaves Lesley Reddon of Fredericton, N.B. and Danielle Dube of Richmond, B.C. as the two goalies on the World Championship team for Canada, which has won the tournament all three times it has been held -- 1990, 1992, 1994.

Rheaume, of Lac Beauport, Que., is a two-time world champion with the National Women's Team (19) and also played on Canada's gold medal-winning teamat the inaugural 3 Nations Cup tournment, involving the United States and Finland last October in Ottawa and other Eastern Ontario cities.

'Manon Rheaume is a fine goaltender, an excellent athlete and a character person,' said Miller of Rheaume, who helped Canada win gold in Tampere, Finland and again in Lake Placid, N.Y. 'She has been an important part of Canada's National Women's Team and she may well be again, but this season she has not displayed the consistency we expect of goalies playing at the World Championship level.

"Lesley Reddon has been extremely solid and consistent all season Dube has rebounded strongly from an injury which hampered her somewhat at the January camp (in St-Jean, Que.).'

Team Canada remains one player over the roster limit of 20 players -- 18 skaters and two goalies. Nancy Deschamps, a forward, is in camp only in case of injury to another player.

The team beat a club of Ontario all-stars 5-1 on Monday night and plays its second and final pre-tournament game on Friday night at the Barrie Molson Centre against Team Finland.
