STUTTGART, Germany -- Florian Keller snapped a 2-2 tie with a power-play goal at 4:36 of the third period to lift Germany to a 4-2 victory over Canada at the Deutschland Cup hockey tournament on Saturday.

The loss leaves Canada with a 1-1 won-lost record in the four-team tournament. The Germans, who beat Italy 3-0 on Friday, are 2-0 and face Slovakia (0-1-1) on Sunday in their final tournament game. Team Canada plays its final game in the round-robin competition on Sunday against Italy (0-1-1), who tied Slovakia 1-1 on Saturday.

Mike Stewart and Derek Mayer scored Canada's goals against Germany, who also got single goals from Josef Lehner, Leo Stefan and Thomas Brandl.

Penalties proved costly for Canada's National Team, which fell behind 2-0 on power-play goals by Lehner at 14:46 of the opening period and Stefan, just 33 seconds into the second.

Canada tied the game 2-2 on power-play goals by Stewart and Mayer in the second period. And after falling behind 3-2 in the third, Team Canada surged to the attack. They outshot Germany 14-6 in the final period and 31-23 overall, but lacked finish.

'The Germans play hard, but with the number of scoring chances we had enough opportunity to win the game,' said Canadian head coach Andy Murray. 'It was once again a game in which our players had difficulty adjusting to the way games are officiated in Europe.'

Team Canada drew 13 minor penalties, compared to 10 for Germany. A frustrated Mayer was assessed a minor and a 10-minute misconduct after Brandl's empty-net goal with 37 seconds remaining in the game.

Next week, Team Canada travels to Oslo, Norway to participate in the Rimi Cup tournament against Austria, Switzerland and the host Norwegians.
