OTTAWA - Canadian Hockey announced today that Ed Georgica and Conrad Lackten, both of the Ottawa Senators, would join the Canadian team staff for the 1996 World Championships in Vienna, Austria, from April 21 to May 5.
Georgica will work with the national team's equipment manager, Gus Thorson, and Lackten will join national team physiotherapist Kevin Wager and team doctor Eric Babins on the medical side. Georgica and Lackten have been with the Senators for four seasons, and joined the Team Canada staff for the 1993 World Championship in Germany.
"We have an exceptional national team staff that has been with the squad all season, but we've always found it integral to our success to add NHL personnel to ensure that we're able to service the needs our players, which will be mostly NHLers," said Bob Nicholson, senior vice-president of hockey operations for Canadian Hockey.
"Again, we're very appreciative of the support and cooperation received from the Senators and Pierre (Gauthier), who will also serve as Team Canada's general manager for the World Championship," said Nicholson. "We're looking forward to working with two exceptional people in Ed and Conrad."
