Atlantic wins first game beating Saskatchewan in OT
Team Atlantic waited until their final game to win and they needed overtime to do it. Jayne Knowles, Atlantic’s player of the game, led her team with 2 goals en route to a 6-5 victory against Team Saskatchewan. Stephanie Ramsey, Stephanie Roy, Chantal Jaillet also scored for Atlantic while Abby Barton scored the overtime winner. Karissa Swan, Saskatchewan’s player of the game and Hayley Klassen each scored two goals for Saskatchewan while Tegan Schreoder added another.
Team Manitoba wins second straight
After opening the tournament with two straight losses, Team Manitoba closed out the tournament on a high note beating Ontario Blue 3-2 in overtime. Lisa Kissick was the hero netting the overtime winner while Ashley Lynch and Tammy Brade also scored for Manitoba. Team Manitoba’s goaltender Stacey Corfield was outstanding and was named Manitoba’s player of the game stopping 39 of 41 shots. Dominique Thibault and Andrea Ironside replied for Team Ontario Blue who lost their second straight 3-2 overtime game.
Quebec edges BC to gain a berth in final
Team Quebec edged Team BC 3-2 Saturday evening securing their spot in the gold medal game against the winner of Team Ontario Red and Alberta. Goaltender Kathy Desjardins, Quebec’s player of the game, was solid once again stopping 32 of 34 shots while Emanuelle Blais, Ann-Sophie Bettez and Karel Emard found the back of the net. Despite a losing cause, Melinda Choy was also solid in goal for BC stopping 28 of 21 shots. Kelci Herman scored her first two goals of the tournament to lead BC.
Team Ontario Red cruised to final
Team Ontario Red scored three unanswered third period goals defeating team Alberta 5-0 on Saturday night. With the win, Ontario Red will face Quebec in Sunday’s gold medal game. Melissa DiPetta earned the shutout for Quebec making good on all 13 shots she faced. Haley Irwin, Melanie Rothon, Alison Domenico, Britney Selina and Vanessa Vani all scored for Ontario Red. Meghan Agosta chipped in three assists in the victory. Forward Robyn Law was name Ontario Red’s player of the game while goaltender Kristen Young was named Alberta’s player of the game after facing 42 shots.
