PRAGUE – Joel Quenneville, who was released from hospital on Saturday, has issued the following statement:

“It is with deep regret that I step down as head coach of Team Canada. I was honored to have been asked to help represent my country. I know the team will do well under the leadership of Mike Babcock, Tom Renney and Mike Pelino and I wish them all the best in their bid to remain World Champions. I am feeling better, and am looking forward to a much needed rest with my family.”

Team Canada’s physician, Dr. Ian Auld, indicated that Quenneville’s status has improved:

“Joel was released from hospital on Saturday morning after spending one night. Since his release, his health has continued to improve. Following reassuring results from lab tests done over night, he now has medical clearance to return home.”
