THE MOMENT: Czech Republic @ Sweden – Tuesday, April 2
by Chris Kallan
NEPEAN Ont. – A blazing shot from the point. Ping! Another shot. Ping! And then other. Ping!
What does a team have to do to get a goal around here?
During one shift that spanned about 45 seconds early in the third period, Swedish players hit the left post, the right post and – you guessed it – the crossbar. You have to be kidding. Nope, it’s true.
A video replay after the whistle revealed the puck didn’t cross the line on either of the trio of efforts. Czech Republic goaltender Radka Lhotska closed her pads together and looked admiringly at both posts as if to thank the steel barriers.
One ridiculously fortuitous sequence is our “moment” to remember, and helped the central European country to its biggest international win in its inaugural game at this tournament.
