TOP REGULAR SEASON TEAM – SUMMERSIDE WESTERN CAPITALS
The race for first place in the Maritime Hockey League went down to the final weekend, with the Summerside Western Capitals outlasting the Woodstock Slammers thanks to an overtime win in their season finale; the Capitals and Slammers finished even on points, but Summerside earned the regular-season title with two more wins (34-32). The Capitals went from out of the playoffs in 2014-15 to top spot on the back of a league-leading offence (their 207 goals were tied with Dieppe for most in the MHL) a 19-5 record on home ice, and the league’s best power play (26.5%). It was a two-man show up front for Summerside; MHL MVP Thomas Stavert (41-56—97) and Blaize Bridges (26-51—77) finished first and third, respectively, in league scoring, and were 34 points ahead of any other Capitals skater. Summerside finished in the middle-of-the-pack defensively, allowing 150 goals (sixth out of 12 MHL teams), with goaltender Matt Williams carrying the load; Williams led the league in wins (22) and finished second among goaltenders in minutes played (1947:11).
