TOP REGULAR SEASON TEAM – CARLETON PLACE CANADIANS

For the third year in a row the Carleton Place Canadians finished the regular season atop the CCHL standings, but just barely. The Canadians – who have lost in the RBC Cup championship game in each of the last two seasons – earned four wins in their last five games to edge the Ottawa Jr. Senators by just a single point, 89 to 88. With 11 players back from the RBC Cup roster (only eight finished the season in blue and gold), Carleton Place equalled the league’s longest winning streak, scoring 10 victories in a row from Sept. 18 to Oct. 12, and its 17-game run on home ice from Sept. 6 to Dec. 11 almost doubled the next-best streak. The Canadians were middle-of-the-pack on defence, allowing 178 goals (good for sixth in the 12-team CCHL), but they were led by their offence; Carleton Place finished No. 2 in goal scoring, with 247, and Lucas Batt (28 goals, 49 assists) and Bryce Van Horn (37 goals, 33 assists) were second and fourth, respectively, in league scoring. In goal, Colton Point was the stand-out; the netminder led the CCHL in goals-against average (2.16), and finished second in shutouts (seven), fourth in wins (23), and fourth in save percentage (.915).
