TOP REGULAR SEASON TEAM – SPRUCE GROVE SAINTS
No. 1 offence. No. 1 power play. No. 1 penalty kill. No. 1 home-ice record. It’s not hard to see why the Spruce Grove Saints were the AJHL’s best regular season team in 2013-14. North Division champions for the sixth consecutive season, the Saints won their fourth Dave Duchak Trophy as AJHL regular season champions over that span, outlasting Fort McMurray by just three points in the race for top spot. Spruce Grove was lights out on home ice; in 29 games at Grant Fuhr Arena, the Saints were 27-1-1, winning their first 21. Parker Mackay (58 points) and Cameron Hughes (57 points) led an offence that scored a league-leading 235 goals, while goaltender Kenny Cameron (top five in wins, minutes played, goals-against average and shutouts) backstopped a defence that allowed just 135, second best in the AJHL. Spruce Grove spread around the scoring – seven players scored at least 16 goals and eight finished with 30 points or more.
