CALGARY, Alta. – Five of the top female officials from across Canada will attend the inaugural Hockey Canada Female Level V Officiating Seminar from Aug. 20-24 in Calgary.

The seminar prepares officials for assignments to national events and international competitions, such as the Esso Cup, National Women’s Under-18 Championship, CIS national championships, the Clarkson Cup, IIHF world championships and the Olympic Winter Games.

The five officials attending the Hockey Canada Female Level V Officiating Seminar are:

Gabrielle Ariano-Lortie Montreal, Que. Hockey Quebec
Christine Durham Winnipeg, Man. Hockey Manitoba
Kayla Keeping Prince George, B.C. B.C. Hockey
Lacey Senuk St. Albert, Alta. Hockey Alberta
Michelle Stapleton Saskatoon, Sask. Saskatchewan Hockey Association

“Canada has long been a provider of world-class officials, and this seminar is another step in keeping Canadian officials on the ice at the game’s biggest events,” said James Mays, Hockey Canada’s referee-in-chief. “The Hockey Canada Officiating Program is the envy of hockey nations around the world, and we’re excited to watch it continue to grow and develop.”

The five officials attending the seminar are all Level IV officials, and were nominated by their respective Hockey Canada branches. A selection committee then reviewed all of the candidates and selected these officials.

Instruction at the Hockey Canada Female Level V Officiating Seminar will be handled by Mays, Todd Anderson, Hockey Canada’s senior manager of officiating, and national supervisor Mary Anne Gage. Guest instructors will also be making presentations throughout the seminar.

There are more than 2,200 female officials currently registered as part of the Hockey Canada Officiating Program, including 45 active Level IV officials registered annually.
