TORONTO, Ont./MONTREAL, Que. – Hockey Canada is offering the chance for behind-the-scenes access to a Canadian holiday tradition – the IIHF World Junior Championship – for interested and qualified volunteers, when the event returns to Montreal and Toronto this December.

The 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship is being hosted in Montreal and Toronto, Dec. 26, 2016 to Jan. 5, 2017, at the renowned Bell Centre in Montreal, and Air Canada Centre in Toronto. Applications for volunteer positions supporting functions such as team services, media services, and fan experience, to name a few, are now being accepted.

“Hockey Canada relies very much on the commitment and dedication of volunteers from coast-to-coast-to-coast to make our events and programs as successful as they are,” said Dean McIntosh, senior director of events and properties for Hockey Canada. “Whether we’re talking about the on-ice delivery of our programs by volunteer coaches, or the ticket-scanners and ushers greeting fans at World Juniors, volunteers help us deliver the experience that Hockey Canada strives to achieve throughout our organization – one that reflects fun, excellence, and a high-quality product. We understand the value our volunteers bring to the table, and work diligently to make it a positive and rewarding experience for them in recognition of the time they are giving to us.”

Volunteers taking part in the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship must be 16 years of age or older as of Sept. 1, 2016, and be able to attend training sessions in advance of the event as well as undergo the established screening requirements.

Hockey Canada provides volunteers with Nike apparel, meals and snacks during their shifts, a post-event appreciation party, and the chance to make memories and lifelong friendships.

The 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship volunteer program is presented by Hockey Canada premier partner, RBC.
