CALGARY, Alta. – The road to gold for Canada’s National Junior Team begins in just over a month with the QMJHL’s Blainville-Boisbriand Armada, in partnership with the city of Boisbriand, Que., hosting this year’s selection camp, Dec. 11-14.

Canada’s National Junior Team Sport Chek Selection Camp will be held at the home of the Armada, the Centre d’Excellence Sports Rousseau, and features three games: two against a team of U Sports (formerly CIS) all-stars on Dec. 12 and 13, and a final game against the Czech Republic on Dec. 14 before the Canadians finalize their roster at the close of camp. Tickets are $25 for adults, $15 for kids and available through the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada box office or admission.ca.

Following the four-day camp, attention turns to the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship  which returns to Montreal and Toronto this December. Twenty-two players will be selected to represent Canada and don the jersey on home ice for the first time since 2015 when Canada won gold in front of a sold-out crowd of over 19,000 fans at the Air Canada Centre. This year, gold will be won in Montreal.

“The opportunity to evaluate the players through camp and the three games gives us the best chance to assemble the top Canadian players to represent our country at this prestigious event,” said Scott Salmond, vice-president of hockey operations and national teams, Hockey Canada. Canada is expected to announce the team Dec. 15, with final rosters confirmed on Dec. 25.

Canada plays three pre-tournament games prior to opening the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship in Toronto on Boxing Day against Russia at 8 p.m. ET. They’ll then face their U.S. rivals on New Year’s Eve at 3:30 p.m. ET to close out preliminary-round action from Toronto before moving to the Bell Centre in Montreal. Extensive coverage of the 2017 IIHF World Junior Championship is planned by TSN and RDS, the official broadcasters of Hockey Canada, including Canada’s three pre-tournament games; check local listings for details.

Note to media: Media accreditation requests for Canada’s National Junior Team Sport Chek Selection Camp is now open; please submit online accreditations no later than Wednesday, Dec. 7.
