The World Junior A Challenge host organizing committee announced Monday that Peter Chiarelli, president of hockey operations and general manager with the NHL’s Edmonton Oilers, will speak at the Welcome the World banquet on Dec. 10, the night before the tournament begins in Bonnyville, Alta.

Tickets for the banquet, which will be held at the field house at the Bonnyville Centennial Centre, are available for $40 at Lancer Sportswear or Tellier Guardian Pharmacy in Bonnyville.

Chiarelli joined the Oilers in April 2015 after nine seasons as general manager of the Boston Bruins, which included a Stanley Cup championship in 2011. He was also part of Canada’s management group for the 2014 Olympic Winter Games, and was a co-GM of Team North America at the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.

The banquet begins at 5:30 p.m. with a cocktail hour, followed by a meal and special thanks to the community from the host organizing committee. Chiarelli will conclude the evening.

“We cannot thank Peter Chiarelli and the Edmonton Oilers enough for agreeing to join us on Dec. 10,” said Robb Hunter, chair of the 2016 World Junior A Challenge host organizing committee. “This is going to be an exciting evening to thank everyone who has helped make this event a reality, and take some time to celebrate before the first puck drops.”

Full-tournament ticket packages are available online, on in-person at the Bonnyville Centennial Centre; packages include 13 games and are on sale for just $245.
