TOP REGULAR SEASON TEAM – VANCOUVER NORTH WEST GIANTS
Make it five consecutive first-place finishes for the Vancouver NW Giants, who finished six points clear of the Cariboo Cougars atop the B.C. Major Midget League standings, thanks to a 13-2-1 run after the calendar turned to 2012. Last year the Giants became the first B.C. team in a decade to win their way into the TELUS Cup and were the team to beat early on at the national championship in St. John’s, N.L., opening with four wins in a row before eventually settling for a fourth-place finish. While the 2010-11 Giants were led by the offensive one-two punch of Alex Kerfoot and Sam Reinhart, this year’s edition relied on its defensive prowess – Vancouver NW allowed a miniscule 66 goals in 40 games, 33 less than second-place Cariboo.
