Canada's National Women's Under-22/Development Team Roster Named for Three-Game Series Against United States

CALGARY, Alta. – Hockey Canada announced Sunday the 22 players that will play for Canada’s National Women’s Under-22/Development Team in a three-game series against the United States’ Women’s Under-22 Select Team from Thursday, Aug. 16 to Sunday, Aug. 19 in Calgary.

The 13 forwards, seven defencemen and two goaltenders were chosen following Canada’s National Women’s Under-22/Development Team selection camp held Aug. 3-11, also held in Calgary, at Hockey Canada’s home rink, the WinSport Canada Athletic & Ice Complex.

Canada’s National Women’s Under-22/Development Team features:

One player who won a gold medal with Canada’s National Women’s Team at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, B.C. (Poulin);

Two players who were centralized with Canada’s National Women’s Team in Calgary during the 2009-10 season (Jenner, Poulin);

Three players who won a gold medal with Canada’s National Women’s Team at the 2012 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship in Burlington, Vt., in April (Fortino, Jenner, Poulin);

Four players who won a gold medal with Canada’s National Women’s Under-18-Team at the 2012 IIHF Ice Hockey U18 Women’s World Championship in Zlin, Czech Republic, in January (Ambrose, Lefort, Maschmeyer, Stacey);

Nine players who won a bronze medal with Canada’s National Women’s Under-22/Development Team at the 2012 Meco Cup in Füssen, Germany, in January (Bram, Campbell, Davis, Edney, Kosta, Menard, Poudrier, Rattray, Saulnier).

Canada’s National Women’s Under-22/Development Team, by province:

  • Ontario – 11 (Ambrose, Cudmore, Doyle, Edney, Fortino, Jenner, Kosta, Menard, Rattray, Stacey, Terry)
  • Québec – five (Daoust, Desbiens, Lefort, Poudrier, Poulin)
  • Manitoba – two (Bram, Lacquette)
  • Alberta – one (Maschmeyer)
  • Saskatchewan – one (Campbell)
  • Newfoundland and Labrador – one (Davis)
  • Nova Scotia – one (Saulnier)

Canada’s National Women’s Under-22/Development Team was assembled by Kalli Quinn, Hockey Canada’s director of female national teams; Melody Davidson, Hockey Canada’s head scout of women’s national team programs, and her team of scouts; along with head coach Lisa Jordan (Westville, N.S./Ryerson University, CIS), assistant coaches Pierre Alain (Mirabel, Que./St-Jérôme, Collégial AA) and Cassandra Turner (Campbellford, Ont./Quinnipiac University, ECAC), as well as goaltending coach Perry Wilson (LaSalle, Ont./University of Windsor, CIS).

“The 40 players who took to the ice in Calgary for this summer’s National Women’s Under-22/Development Team selection camp represent some of the top female hockey talent in our country,” Jordan said. “It was difficult to narrow it down, but we know the 22 players chosen to play three games against the United States will represent Canada with confidence and class.”

Canada’s National Women’s Under-22/Development Team will play games against the United States’ Women’s Under-22 Select Team on Thursday, Aug. 16 at 7 p.m. MT, Friday, Aug. 17 at 7 p.m. MT and Sunday, Aug. 19 at 10 a.m. MT, at the WinSport Canada Athletic & Ice Complex in Calgary.

Following the series, Hockey Canada scouts, along with Canada’s National Women’s Under-22/Development Team coaching staff, will continue to evaluate players with their club teams during the 2012-13 season, in preparation for selecting the Canadian contingent that will compete at the 2013 Meco Cup in Germany next January.

Hockey Canada will be holding several female development activities in Calgary, including the 2012 Female Officiating Program of Excellence seminar, intermission mini-games and Experience a Dream, which will give young girls the chance to join under-22 players for off-ice and on-ice warm-ups during the Canada-United States series.
