ROCKLAND, Ont. – Canada’s National Women’s Under-18 Team, named Sunday following a selection camp held in Rockland, will take on the U.S. Women’s Under-18 Team in a three-game series this week, starting tomorrow night.

The action kicks off Thursday, August 18 at 7 p.m. ET, followed by a second game Friday, August 19 at 7 p.m. ET, and the third and final match-up Sunday, August 21 at 10 a.m. ET, all at the Canadian International Hockey Academy in Rockland. Tickets are $5 each at the door.

The coaching staff for Canada’s National Women’s Under-18 Team also announced Wednesday that Erin Ambrose (Keswick, Ont.) will serve as captain during the three-game series against the United States. The coaches will appoint two alternate captains for each of three games.

Canada’s 22-player roster was chosen following Canada’s National Women’s Under-18 Team selection camp, held August 7-14, also at the Canadian International Hockey Academy.

Canada’s National Women’s Under-18 Team was assembled by under-18 head coach Pierre Alain (Mirabel, Que./St-Jérôme, Collégial AA); assistant coaches Jim Fetter (Waterloo, Ont./St. Cloud State University, WCHA) and Carla MacLeod (Calgary, Alta./Mount Royal University, ACAC); goaltending coach Perry Wilson (LaSalle, Ont./University of Windsor, OUA); in consultation with Kalli Quinn, Hockey Canada’s director of female national teams; Melody Davidson, Hockey Canada’s head scout of women’s national team programs, and her team of scouts.

Following the series, Hockey Canada scouts, along with the team’s coaching staff, will continue to evaluate players with their club teams during the 2011-12 season, in preparation for selecting the Canadian team that will compete at the 2012 IIHF Ice Hockey Under-18 Women’s World Championship in the Czech Republic in January.

Hockey Canada will also be holding several female development activities, including skills camps for players, as well intermission mini-games and Experience a Dream, which will give young girls the chance to join under-18 players for off-ice and on-ice warm-ups during the Canada-United States three-game series. Please contact Trina Radcliffe, Hockey Canada’s manager of female development, for more information at (403) 777-3601 or tradcliffe@hockeycanada.ca.
