CALGARY, Alta. – Hockey Canada announced Monday the participants for the eighth annual Hockey Canada Skills Academy seminar taking place at the University of Calgary July 6-8. Eighty delegates from seven provinces will be on hand for the seminar, which is held for Hockey Canada Skills Academy operators and instructors.
Two-time Olympic gold medal-winning coach Ken Hitchcock will be the keynote speaker and is among seven presenters who will provide skills training to the operators and instructors. Other presenters include: Chris Chapman (Toronto, Ont.), Matt Cockell (Winnipeg, Man./Brandon, WHL), Marcin Goszczynski (Calgary, Alta.), Corey McNabb (High River, Alta./Hockey Canada), Brian Shackel (Leduc, Alta.) and Mike Williamson (Leduc, Alta./Calgary, WHL).
Delegates from Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Quebec and Saskatchewan will attend the three-day event. Seminar topics will include the biomechanics of skating, goaltending, skills and drills, shooting and scoring, as well as torso stability.
Currently, there are 120 hockey schools registered across the country as Hockey Canada Skills Academies, including 10 new schools registered for the 2011-12 season.
