CALGARY, Alta. – The 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship host committee, in partnership with Hockey Canada and the Canadian Hockey League, announced Thursday that due to unprecedented interest from those selected in the priority ticket draw, all ticket packages that were made available through the draw have now been sold.
More than 17,000 ticket packages, which include approximately 275,000 tickets, were made available to those chosen through the priority ticket draw.
"The response from hockey fans to the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship priority draw process continues to exceed all of our expectations," said Bob Nicholson, Hockey Canada president/CEO and member of the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship steering committee. "The interest in this event is even beyond what any of us imagined when we started preparing for this event back in 2008. All of Alberta has embraced the World Juniors and we will be part of a very special event in December 2011."
The priority ticket draw was the only chance for fans to purchase seats for the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship. Over 225,000 tickets, or approximately 50 per cent of all seats, had previously been purchased by season ticket holders of the Calgary Hitmen, Calgary Flames, Edmonton Oil Kings and Edmonton Oilers.
This draw was for the purchase of ticket packages in Edmonton or Calgary. The Calgary event package was for 21 games, including the gold medal game, bronze medal game, semifinals, quarter-finals and 10 preliminary round games. The Edmonton event package of 10 games included four guaranteed preliminary round games featuring Canada’s National Junior Team.
With the expected interest in tickets for the 2012 IIHF World Junior Championship, the priority draw was implemented to provide fans the fairest access to ticket packages in both cities.
