On a bright and chilly afternoon, the Montreal Canadiens Children’s Foundation BLEU BLANC BOUGE IN ACTION team, in cooperation with Hockey Canada, Hockey Québec and kinesiology students from the University of Montreal, began skating initiation clinics for first and second grade elementary school children in the communities of Saint-Michel and Montreal-North.

The objective of this pilot project is to provide the school community with tools aimed at maximizing physical activity opportunities for children in a safe and secure environment and develop social and cooperation skills, self-esteem as well as a healthy lifestyle among all participants.

All in all, seven weekly clinics will be organized during six winter weeks, enabling over a hundred students to fully enjoy the pleasures of ice sports. The improvement of the youngsters throughout the clinics is remarkable. In the beginning, the children fall easily but by the time the last clinics are held, they can skate on their own with huge smiles on their faces!

On this day, the children who were present also got to meet the popular mascots such as Youppi from the Montreal Canadiens, Puckster from Hockey Canada as well as the newcomer to the group, Zambo from Hockey Quebec. In addition, every participant received a Bleu Blanc Bouge activity book promoting healthy life choices, nutrition, health, physical activity and the benefits of being active through fun games.

Congratulations to the students of the Léonard-de-Vinci and Le Carignan schools for their enthusiasm and their perseverance and thank you to the personnel from the communities of Saint-Michel and Montreal-North without who this project could not have been such a huge success!
