QUEBEC CHAMPIONS – KODIACS DU LAC ST-LOUIS

The Kodiacs du Lac St-Louis, a team taken straight out of private school Kuper Academy in Kirkland, Que., to represent the area at the female Midget AA level, caused quite the upset at this year’s Dodge Cup, beating out defending champions the Remparts du Richelieu to snag the gold medal at Quebec’s annual provincial championship. The 2-0 shutout in the championship game April 3 at St. Louis Arena  in Montreal also earned Lac St-Louis a ticket straight to St. Albert, where they’ll compete for the top spot in the nation at the 2011 Esso Cup. The Kodiacs du Lac St-Louis will make their debut at Canada’s National Female Midget Championship in St. Albert, becoming the second team from their province to participate in the three-year tournament, as Quebec did not send a team to Calgary, Alta., at the inaugural event. Rival squad the Remparts du Richelieu are the only other Quebec team to take to the ice at the Esso Cup, finishing in sixth place last year in Regina, Sask. But despite the determination of the Remparts to make it there again this year, the Kodiacs du Lac St-Louis breezed their way through the round robin, played strong through quarter-finals and semifinals and held on to their lead in the championship game to win the 2011 Dodge Cup. Will the Kodiacs be able to add another, more highly coveted, cup to their collection before the 2010-11 season ends? Check out HockeyCanada.ca for all the 2011 Esso Cup action.
