REGINA, Sask. – The Thunder Bay Queens (Ontario) have won the 2010 Esso Cup, defeating the Notre Dame Hounds (West) 4-3 in Saturday’s gold medal game inside the Co-operators Centre at Evraz Place.

Kaitlyn Tougas (Thunder Bay, Ont.) scored twice to help the Queens to gold, including a beautiful goal that she stickhandled through a defenceman’s legs before shooting to tie up the game 1-1 late in the first period. Her second goal was the game-winner on a power play at 11:24 of the third period. Courtney Tougas (Thunder Bay, Ont.) and Michela Cava (Thunder Bay, Ont.) also scored for the Queens.

Olivia Howe (Moose Jaw, Sask.) opened the scoring for Notre Dame in the game’s opening five minutes, while Brienna Gillanders (Kyle, Sask.) and Brittany Berisoff (Kelowna, B.C.) gave the Hounds a 3-1 lead in the second period before the Queens started their comeback.

Earlier Saturday, the Edmonton Thunder (West) beat the Regina Rebels (Host) 5-1 for the bronze medal. Kirsten Reeves (Edmonton, Alta.) scored twice for Edmonton, while Arden Cowley (Edmonton, Alta.), Caitlin Connell (Edmonton, Alta.) and Jessica Sekulic (Edmonton, Alta.) also added goals for the Thunder. Brittany MacDougall (Regina, Sask.) scored the lone goal for the Rebels.
