The World Under-17 Hockey Challenge has always been a coming-out party of sorts for the next generation of hockey stars – as evidenced by the 1,100+ NHL draft picks that have skated at the event – and if the latest rankings from International Scouting Services are any indication, next summer’s NHL Entry Draft in Minnesota should be no different.

Of the 30 players projected by ISS to hear their names called in the first round, 22 are under-17 alumni, 18 from last year’s tournament in Timmins, Ont., four from the 2009 event in Port Alberni, B.C., and one from London, Ont., in 2008.

Sean Couturier, ISS’ top-ranked player, is the only player on the list to have played twice at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge – he suited up for Atlantic in 20.

1. Sean Couturier – Atlantic, 2008-09

2. Ryan Nugent-Hopkins – Pacific, 2010

5. Brandon Saad – United States, 2009
