DAUPHIN, Man. – The 2010 RBC Cup, Canada's 40th National Junior A Championship, held its awards banquet on Friday night at the Parkland Recreation Complex in Dauphin. The recipients of all five individual awards were announced at the banquet.

The awards were based on the tournament's round-robin, which ran from Saturday to Thursday.

The 2010 RBC Cup award winners are:

Most Valuable Player (Roland Mercier Trophy) – Shane Luke (Dauphin Kings)

Top Goaltender – Justin Gilbert (Brockville Braves)

Top Forward – Scott Arnold (Brockville Braves)

Top Defensive Player – Dustin Stevenson (La Ronge Ice Wolves)

Most Sportsmanlike Player (Tubby Schmalz Trophy) – Kellen Jones (Vernon Vipers)

In addition, Sherwood Park Crusaders (Alberta Junior Hockey League) forward Cody Kunyk was presented with the 2010 RBC Canadian Junior Hockey League Player of the Year award. The AJHL’s most valuable player, Kunyk finished in the top five in league scoring with 87 points (44g 43a) while taking home Sherwood Park’s awards for most valuable player, top scorer and fan favourite. He made a splash on the international stage in November in Summerside, P.E.I., leading the 2009 World Junior A Challenge in scoring and earning a spot on the tournament all-star team while helping Canada West to a silver medal.

Samuel MacCormick of the Bridgewater Lumberjacks (Maritime Junior A Hockey League) was on hand in Dauphin to receive the RBC National Junior A Scholarship. MacCormick was chosen from 10 finalists – one from 10 of the Canadian Junior Hockey League's member leagues – to receive the $5,000 scholarship.

The RBC Cup Legacy Scholarships were also handed out at the awards banquet. Established following the 2004 RBC Royal Bank Cup in Grande Prairie, Alta. and contributed to following successful National Junior A Championships in Weyburn, Sask., Prince George, B.C., Cornwall, Ont. and Victoria, B.C., these $500 scholarships are awarded to one graduating 20-year-old player from each of the five participating teams.

The RBC Cup Legacy Scholarship winners are:

Brockville Braves – Scott Arnold

Dauphin Kings – Steven Shamanski

La Ronge Ice Wolves – Liam Brennan

Oakville Blades – Michael Ingoldsby

Vernon Vipers – Kevin Kraus

After five days of round-robin action, the semifinals are set for Saturday. In the early game at 2 p.m. CT, the Vernon Vipers (3-1) will face the Brockville Braves (2-2), while the Dauphin Kings (4-0) will face the La Ronge Ice Wolves (1-3) in the late semifinal (7 p.m. CT).
