Canada to Face United States in Gold Medal Game at 2009 Hockey Canada Cup; Game Can Be Seen Live on Tsn2 on Sunday, March 1 at 5 P.M. Pt/8 P.M. et

VANCOUVER, BC – Canada’s National Sledge Team will face the United States on Sunday, March 1 in the gold medal game the 2009 Hockey Canada Cup, a four-team tournament being held as a test event for the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games.

Canada defeated Germany 9-0 in one of two semifinals held on Saturday at UBC Thunderbird Arena, while the U.S. beat Japan 3-2 in the other semi.

Billy Bridges (Summerside, PEI) led Canada with four goals and two assists, Greg Westlake (Oakville, ON) scored three goals and Hervé Lord (St-Pamphile, QC) and Graeme Murray (Gravenhurst, ON) added singles as Canada earned its second lopsided win of the tournament over the Germans. Brad Bowden (Orton, ON) and Adam Dixon (Midland, ON) had three assists each in the win, while Paul Rosen (Thornhill, ON) made nine saves for the shutout.

Germany and Japan will play for bronze on Sunday at 1 p.m. PT.

Sunday’s gold medal game will be played at 5 p.m. PT/8 p.m. ET and can be seen LIVE on TSN2 coast-to-coast. The main TSN network will carry the game on tape delay at 9 p.m. PT/midnight ET. Dave Randorf will provide play-by-play coverage, with Jake Snyder as colour commentator. This is the first time a sledge hockey game has been shown on live TV in Canada.

The 2009 Hockey Canada Cup is a four-team event being held one year out of the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games. All games are being played at the new UBC Thunderbird Arena, the home for sledge hockey in 2010.
