CALGARY – Hockey Canada announced on Friday the 42 players who have been invited to the National Women’s Under-18 Team selection camp, July 18-27 at Father David Bauer Olympic Arena in Calgary.

The players were selected to be part of the selection camp based on evaluations done by Hockey Canada regional scouts during the 2007-08 season. These evaluations included performances with their club teams, along with the 2007 National Women’s Under-18 Championship in Kitchener, ON and the National Women’s Under-18 Team strength and conditioning/skating camp in May in Calgary.

The players attending camp are eligible to represent Canada at the 2009 IIHF World Women’s Under-18 Championship, January 5-10, 2009 in Füssen, Germany. Hockey Canada will use the camp to select 22 players for a three-game series against the USA’s Women’s Under-18 Select Team in Lake Placid, NY in late August.

The roster features three players who won a silver medal at the 2008 IIHF World Women’s Under-18 Championship in Calgary in January (Fortino, Jenner, Poulin).

“After the success of Canada’s National Women’s Under-18 Team in its inaugural season, we are excited about the new group of players coming into the program this year,” says Melody Davidson, general manager of the National Women’s Program. “We are confident that the group of players we have selected will represent Hockey Canada and continue its traditions.”
