QUEBEC CITY, QC – Hockey Canada announced on Monday that Canada will play in two exhibition games and stage it’s pre-competition camp for the 2008 IIHF World Championship in Quebec City in late April 2008.
Team Canada will be playing two exhibition games at the Colisée Pepsi in Quebec City, on April 26th vs. Finland and on April 28th vs. Russia. Tickets to both Team Canada games will go on sale on January 31st, at www.billetech.com and at the Colisée Pepsi ticket office at (418) 691-7211.
Hockey Canada will be naming a management staff for the 2008 IIHF World Championship in the coming two months, which will in turn name a coaching staff in March 2008. The Team Canada management staff, along with Hockey Canada, will name players in the weeks leading up to Canada’s first game at the 2008 IIHF World Championship on May 2nd vs. Slovenia in Halifax. Canada’s team for the World Championship will be mostly made up of NHL players not involved in the NHL playoffs.
Canada will also hold its pre-competition camp at the Colisée Pepsi in Quebec City prior to the World Championship. Details around Canada’s pre-competition camp, including exact dates, will be announced at a later date.
Canada won a gold medal at the 2007 IIHF World Championship in Moscow, Russia, Canada’s 24th gold medal all-time at the World Championship which ranks first overall, ahead of Russia/Soviet Union, with 23 gold medals.

The IIHF World Championship gathers the top 16 hockey countries playing 56 exciting games leading to the
crowning of a World Champion and in May 2008, the 72nd IIHF World Championship will come to Canada for the
first time ever as it will be co-hosted by Halifax and Quebec City from May 2nd to May 18th.
Halifax will host Canada, USA, Finland, Slovakia, Germany, Latvia, Norway and Slovenia, while Quebec City will host Sweden, Russia, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Belarus, Denmark, France and Italy.
TSN and RDS will be broadcasting all of Canada’s games at the 2008 IIHF World Championship, as well as two quarter-final games, both semi-final games and both medal games.
