CALGARY, AB – Canada’s National Women’s Under-18 Team has won the silver medal at the 2008 IIHF World Women’s Under-18 Championship after dropping a 5-2 decision to the USA in Saturday night’s gold medal game.

Carolyne Prevost (Sarnia, ON) and Jess Jones (Picton, ON) scored goals for Canada, who were unable to recover from a 4-0 second-period deficit. Prevost also added an assist, while Delayne Brian (Winnipeg, MB) made 22 saves.

Natalie Spooner (Scarborough, ON), Marie-Philip Poulin (Beauceville, QC) and Canadian captain Lauriane Rougeau (Beaconsfield, QC) were named Canada’s Top Three Players, while Rougeau (Top Defenseman) and Poulin (Top Forward) also took home IIHF Directorate awards.

The 2008 IIHF World Women’s Under-18 Championship is the first ever world championship held at the women’s Under-18 level, with eight teams – Canada, the United States, Sweden, Finland, Germany, Switzerland, Russia and the Czech Republic – taking part in the six-day tournament from January 7-12 at Father David Bauer Arena and Norma Bush Arena.
