MONCTON, NB – Grassroots hockey will be front and centre this week in Moncton, NB during the National Women’s Team October training camp, which runs October 9-13.

Hockey Canada, in collaboration with Hockey New Brunswick, will hold a number of development activities throughout the week for players and coaches in minor hockey.

The first of these activities will be an Esso Fun Day for adult women on October 9 at Kay Arena. Registration will be at 6:15 p.m. This program gives females the chance to try out hockey for the first time in a fun environment.

On Friday, October 10, another Esso Fun Day will be held, this time for youth girls, at Riverview Arena. Registration will be at noon. There will also be a Hockey Canada female skills camp at Riverview Arena on October 10. Registration will be held at 11:00 a.m. This program is for registered Novice, Atom and Peewee-aged girls.

The focus will turn to coaching on Sunday, October 12, as Canada’s coaching staff – comprised of head coach Melody Davidson, assistants Doug Lidster and Peter Smith and goaltending consultant Dave Jamieson – will host a hot stove for local minor hockey coaches. This will give the minor hockey coaches a chance to learn from some of Canada’s top hockey minds.

Hockey fans will also get the chance to meet members of the National Women’s Team on Friday. During the first intermission of Canada’s game against the Saint John Vitos Midget AAA boys team, members of the National Women’s Team will sign autographs for fans.
