SALMON ARM, BC – After four days of great action in Salmon Arm, BC, four teams remain in the hunt for the 2007 Esso Women’s Nationals title.
Both semi-final games are scheduled to take place on Friday, March 9, at the Sunwave Centre.
At 4:30 p.m., Ontario 2 (Etobicoke Dolphins) will take on Ontario 1 (Mississauga Aeros). Then, at 7:30 p.m., Nova Scotia will battle Alberta. The winners will meet for gold on Saturday at 1 p.m., with the losing teams playing for bronze at 9 a.m. (All times are Pacific)
Ontario 1 reached the semifinal after finishing second in Pool A with a 3-1 record. Alberta, meanwhile, will play in the second semifinal thanks to winning Pool A with a 4-0 record. The two other teams advanced to the semi-finals with quarter-final wins on Thursday. First, Nova Scotia beat New Brunswick 4-1. Then, Ontario 2 defeated B.C., 4-0.
Saturday’s final, scheduled for 1 p.m. PST (4 p.m. ET), will be shown live on TSN and RDS, Hockey Canada’s official broadcasters. Dave Randorf will be joined by Cassie Campbell in the Sunwave Centre play-by-play booth while Sportcentre’s Holly Horton will be reporting from ice-level.
The Esso Women’s National Championship started in 1982 and is Canada’s senior women’s championship. The event attracts some of the most well-known names in Canadian female hockey. This year is no different with National Team players Hayley Wickenheiser, Danielle Goyette, Gillian Ferrari, Delaney Collins and others taking part in the tournament.
