Pre-Tournament Schedule Announced for 2008 IIHF World Women's Under-18 Championship

CALGARY – Hockey Canada announced on Friday a pre-tournament game schedule, consisting of three games, leading up to the 2008 IIHF World Women’s Under-18 Championship, which will be held at the Father David Bauer Olympic Arena and Norma Bush Arena in Calgary from January 7th to 12th.

Calgary will host two of the pre-tournament games, while Okotoks, AB will play host to the other. Five of the eight teams that will compete at the 2008 IIHF World Women’s Under-18 Championship will take part in the pre-tournament games.

“The announcement of the pre-tournament schedule will help build excitement as we get closer to the first game of the inaugural IIHF World Women’s Under-18 Championship,” says Lois Mitchell, chair of the host committee. “Hockey fans in the area will get a terrific opportunity to see the teams in action prior to the start of the championship, and the players will get a chance to see game action before kicking off the biggest tournament of their lives.”

2008 IIHF WORLD WOMEN’S UNDER-18 CHAMPIONSHIP PRE-TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE

Thursday, January 3rd

6:30 p.m. Finland vs. Alberta Midget Hockey League All-Stars Okotoks Centennial Arena (Okotoks, AB)

Saturday, January 5th

7:00 p.m. Canada vs. Switzerland Father David Bauer Olympic Arena (Calgary, AB)

7:00 p.m. Sweden vs. Germany Olympic Oval (Calgary, AB)

TICKET INFORMATION

Tickets are available at the door for all three games. Prices for the pre-tournament games are as follows:

FIN vs. AMHL All-Stars – TBA

CAN vs. SUI – $5 (all children under 12 are free)

SWE vs. GER – free of charge

The 2008 IIHF World Women’s Under-18 Championship will be the first ever world championship held at the women’s Under-18 level, with eight teams – Canada, the USA, Sweden, Finland, Germany, Switzerland, Russia and the Czech Republic – taking part in the six-day tournament.
