Canada Set to Defend Title at 4 Nations Cup in Leksand, Sweden

CALGARY – Canada’s National Women’s Team will be looking for its fourth-straight title at the 2007 4 Nations Cup, which is being held in Leksand, Sweden from November 7th to 11th.

Canada, which has won nine of the 11 4 Nations Cups dating back to 1994, will leave for Sweden on Saturday, November 3rd. The team will stay in Mora for two days and will play Sweden in an exhibition game on November 6th. The tournament begins November 7th, with Canada taking on Finland.

The tournament format is a three-game round-robin, with the top two teams playing for gold and the bottom two teams playing for bronze. The 4 Nations Cup includes the top four ranked women’s hockey programs in the world (Canada, USA, Sweden and Finland) and has been a prominent annual international event since 1996.

CANADA’S 4 NATIONS CUP SCHEDULE

November 6th, 2007 – Canada vs. Sweden, Mora (exhibition)

November 7th, 2007 – Canada vs. Finland, Leksand (round-robin)

November 8th, 2007 – Canada vs. USA, Leksand (round-robin)

November 10th, 2007 – Canada vs. Sweden, Leksand (round-robin)

November 11th, 2007 – Bronze/gold medal games, Leksand

The 4 Nations Cup is the first international competition of the 2007-08 season for Canada’s National Women’s Team. It will give the coaching staff – head coach Peter Smith (Lachine, QC/McGill University, CIS), and assistants Lisa Jordan (Westville, NS/Saint Mary’s University, CIS) and Nancy Wilson (London, ON/University of British Columbia, CIS) – a look at some of the players who are available to compete at the 2008 IIHF World Women’s Championship (April 4-13, 2008 in Harbin, China).
