CALGARY – Forty of Canada’s top female Under-22 players (born in 1986 or later) will gather at York University in Toronto, ON from August 12-19 for the National Women’s Under-22 Team selection camp.

The 40 players – four goaltenders, 12 defensemen and 24 forwards – will compete for spots on the National Women’s Under-22 Team, which will play the USA’s National Women’s Under-22 Team in a three-game series in Lake Placid, New York from August 23-26. The coaching staff, led by head coach Dan Church (Toronto, ON/ York University, CIS), in collaboration with National Women’s Program general manager Melody Davidson and head scout Wally Kozak, will name the team on August 19.

The final National Under-22 Team roster of 22 players will include two players not in attendance at the camp. Rebecca Johnston (Sudbury, ON/ Sudbury Intermediate AA) and Jennifer Wakefield (Pickering, ON/ Etobicoke, NWHL) were named to the National Women’s Under-22 Team following the National Women’s Under-19 Program evaluation camp in late July. They will join the team in Toronto on August 21.

Hockey Canada also announced on Thursday that defenseman Ashley Cockell (Fort Assiniboine, AB/ Edmonton, WWHL) and forward Melissa Anderson (Langley, BC/ Boston University, HE) have been added to the selection camp roster, in addition to the 38 players previously named, rounding out the 40-player camp roster.

The players have been split into two teams for the selection camp – Canada Red and Canada White. The teams will play a pair of games against each other, as well as a pair of games against a team of Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) All-Stars, all at the Ice Gardens on the campus of York University.

All practices and games will be open to the public. There is a suggested donation of $2.00 for admission to games; all funds collected will go to the York University women’s hockey team.

PARKING FOR UNDER-22 SELECTION CAMP

The Rogers Cup tennis tournament is taking place at Rexall Centre on the York University campus, during the National Women’s Under-22 Team selection camp. As such, anyone coming to watch the selection camp is advised to arrive earlier than usual to find parking. Also, you will not be able to get access to the Ice Gardens parking lot from Shoreham Drive, due to construction. Please use Murray Ross Parkway to access the campus.

After the final National Under-22 Team roster is named on August 19, the team will practice twice at York University – on August 21 and 22 – before traveling to Lake Placid.

The National Women’s Under-22 Team will be coached by Dan Church (Toronto, ON/ York University, CIS). He will be joined behind the bench by Sarah Howald (Regina, SK/ University of Regina, CIS) and Stephanie White (Toronto, ON/ Mississauga, NWHL).
