Canada Announces Additional Players for 2007 IIHF World Championship

CALGARY, AB – Hockey Canada, along with Team Canada general manager Steve Yzerman, announced today the addition of three players to Canada’s official World Championship roster. These players will join the team in Moscow, Russia on April 26th.

The 2007 IIHF World Hockey Championship will run from April 27- in Moscow, Russia.

With the first round of the NHL playoffs close to ending, Yzerman and the rest of Canada’s management and coaching staff, including Head Coach Andy Murray, will be adding players to complete Canada’s roster as NHL teams are eliminated from the playoffs.

The players added to Canada’s World Championship roster are :

Defence – Dan Hamhuis – Smithers, BC – Nashville Predators (NHL)

Defence – Shea Weber – Sicamous, BC – Nashville Predators (NHL)

Forward – Jordan Staal – Thunder Bay, ON – Pittsburgh Penguins (NHL)

With today’s additions, Canada’s roster now includes a total of 16 players, including nine forwards, five defencemen and two goaltenders.

Seven National Team players (six that played this season with Canada’s National Men’s Team and one player from Canada’s National Junior Team) will also be joining Canada in Finland from April 23-26 for its pre-competition camp and preparations. These players will assist Team Canada with its preparations, including an exhibition game against Finland on April 24th, prior to naming additional NHL players that get eliminated from the NHL playoffs this week.

Defenceman – Jame Pollock – Victoria, BC – Sinupret Ice Tigers (DEL)

Defenceman – Pascal Trépanier – Gaspé, QC – Mannheim Eagles (DEL)

Forward – René Corbet – Victoriaville, QC – Mannheim Eagles (DEL)

Forward – Martin Kariya – Vancouver, BC – Espoo Blues (FIN)

Forward – Stacy Roest – Lethbridge, AB – Rapperswilll-Jona (SUI)

Forward – Jonathan Toews – Winnipeg, MB – University of North Dakota (WCHA)

Canada opens the 2007 IIHF World Men’s Hockey Championship on April 28 against Germany. All of Canada’s games will be broadcast live by TSN/RDS, the official broadcaster of Hockey Canada. (check local listings).
