CALGARY – Hockey Canada, in partnership with the Canadian Junior A Hockey League (CJAHL), announced Wednesday the schedule of exhibition games that will precede the inaugural World Junior A Challenge.
The schedule features 10 games being held over the five days preceding the tournament, with nine of the games being held in CJAHL centres, split between Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League (SJHL) and Manitoba Junior Hockey League (MJHL) sites. Five of the games will feature CJAHL teams taking on World Junior A Challenge entrants.
The only non-CJAHL centre that will host a game will be Esterhazy, SK, which will welcome Russia and Slovakia on November 4.
"The CJAHL is very pleased to be able to bring this high level of junior hockey to the various communities in Saskatchewan and Manitoba," stated Paul Lake, CJAHL Chairman. "These communities have always been strong Junior A hockey markets, and we are happy to be able to give their fans an opportunity to watch some of the strongest junior hockey talent from around the world."
The first-ever World Junior A Challenge gets underway Monday, November 6, when Team Canada West and Russia face off in Yorkton, SK, with the gold medal game set for Yorkton on Sunday, November 12.
