The Burnaby Express are the 2006 Fred Page Cup Champions after defeating the Penticton Vees 2-1 in overtime. It was another low scoring affair as all the regulation time scoring came in a span of 2:21 seconds late in the first period. The Vees would open the scoring as Mike Towns connected with an even strength goal with just under 3 minutes remaining in the period. The Express would capitalize on a power-play opportunity as Dave Simoes fired a slap shot through the traffic with just 20 seconds remaining.

The game would wear on through the next 40 minutes of play with chances on both sides thwarted by some exceptional goaltending by Express netminder Bryce Luker and Vees goaltender Corey Milan.

In overtime, Bryce Luker made a spectacular save and, like in Game 5, the Express would get 1 shortly after it when Tyler McNeely deflected a cross ice pass past Milan to give the Express their first BCHL Championship in franchise history. The Express enjoyed a terrific run to the Fred Page Cup title. Before winning the Fred Page Cup Final in 6 games over the Vees, they swept the Langley Hornets in 4 games in the opening round of the play-offs and disposed of the Chilliwack Chiefs in 5 games in the Mainland Division final. In the Coastal Conference final series with the Victoria Salsa, the Express lost just a single game enroute to a 4-1 series win and the Cliff McNabb Trophy.

The Express now take the next step toward a Royal Bank Cup appearance as they travel to Alberta to face the Fort McMurray Oil Barons in the Doyle Cup Championship beginning in Fort McMurray Friday night. The winner of the Doyle Cup will advance to the Royal Bank Cup in Streetsville Ontario.
