Canada—2001--Mike Cammalleri tied a Team Canada record by registering seven points (3 goals, 4 assists) in a game against France.

International—1976—Led by Slava Fetisov and Sergei Makarov, the Soviet Union crushes Poland in the first official WJC in Zvolen, Czechoslovakia

December 26

Canada—1994—Canada scored five power-play goals in a 7-1 victory over Ukraine.

International—1991--Peter Forsberg of Sweden makes his World Juniors debut, starring in an 8-4 win over Czechoslovakia

December 27

Canada—1998—Canada and Slovakia played to a scoreless tie, the only such score for Canada in WJC history.

International—2001—Host nation Russia followed a lazy 3-3 tie to open the WJC with a convincing 12-1 smothering of Belarus

December 28

Canada—2003—Sidney Crosby became the youngest player in WJC history to score a goal when he beat Swiss goalie Daniel Manzato in the third period of a 7-2 win.

International—2002—Chris Higgins of the USA scored two short-handed goals to lead his team to a 3-1 win over the Swiss in Halifax.

December 29

Canada—1998—Jamie Lundmark scored Canada’s only goal by penalty shot in WJC history, beating Rastislav Stana of Slovakia on the free shot.

International—2001—Finland hammered France 8-0, the third successive loss for the French during which time they were outscored 28-1.

December 30

Canada—1990—Despite allowing a staggering 66 shots, Canada defeated Finland 5-1 in its fifth game of the round-robin WJC en route to a gold medal.

International—1982—Three of four games played this night at the 1983 WJC in the Soviet Union ended with a 4-2 score, the only other game a 7-3 win by the home side over Canada.

December 31

Canada—2003—Canada beat Finland 5-3 to finish with a perfect 4-0-0 record at the end of round-robin play in Halifax.

International—1998--The Sedin twins, Daniel and Henrik, combined for eight points (four each) in an 11-4 drubbing of Kazakhstan in Winnipeg.

January 1

Canada—2000--The Canadians began the new millennium with a convincing 8-3 win over Switzerland in Skelleftea, Sweden to remain undefeated at 3-0-2.

International—2002—Switzerland beat Slovakia 3-2 in a quarter-finals shootout to advance to a semi-finals showdown against Canada in the Czech Republic.

January 2

Canada—2001—Jamie Lundmark scored with just 5:06 left in the third period to give Canada a 2-1 win over the USA and advance to the semi-finals in Moscow.

International—2000—Despite the presence of Marian Gaborik, soon to be drafted number-one in the NHL, Slovakia loses a crucial relegation game to the Ukraine 3-1.

January 3

Canada—1988—During Canada’s 8-1 victory over Germany, forward Adam Graves set a Canadian record by scoring three goals in just 5:46 in the second period.

International—1993--Peter Forsberg ended his brilliant junior career, leading Sweden to a silver medal with a 5-1 win over Russia during a year in which he amassed a staggering 24 assists and 31 points, both WJC records.

January 4

Canada—1983—Canada routed Norway 13-0 in WJC competition, allowing just six shots during the entire game, a team record.

International—2000—The Czechs won their first ever WJC gold by defeating Russia 1-0 in a shootout in which goalie Zdenek Smid stopped four of five Russian shots.

January 5

Canada—1988—Canada completed an undefeated tournament (6-0-1) by beating Poland 9-1 on the final day of the tournament and capturing the gold medal.

International—Team USA defeated Canada 4-3 in a thrilling final to capture its first ever gold medal at the WJC.
