Hockey Canada Coaching Seminar

OTTAWA, ON – Hockey Canada and the Ottawa District Hockey Association (ODHA) are pleased to host a Coaching Seminar with over 60 participating coaches representing minor hockey, female hockey, and sledge hockey from the Ottawa and Gatineau area at the University of Ottawa today.

The coaches will attend Team Canada’s practice in the morning to observe, and then will be treated to a seminar conducted by the coaching staff from Team Canada.

Head Coach Pat Quinn (Toronto) and assistant coaches Ken Hitchcock (Philadelphia), Jacques Martin (Florida) and Wayne Fleming (Philadelphia), associate coach Marc Habscheid (Hockey Canada) and video coach Reid Mitchell (Toronto) will be presenting the following topics to the attending coaches after practice:

  • Building champions in youth hockey (Pat Quinn)
  • The differences and similarities between coaching NHL and minor hockey players (Jacques Martin)
  • Skill emphasis in minor hockey at different age levels (Ken Hitchcock)
  • Teaching principles of offensive and defensive play (Wayne Fleming)
  • Hockey drills for player/team development (Marc Habscheid)

The seminar will take place at the conclusion of today’s practice (approximately 1pm) in room E217
