With the most prestigious junior hockey Championship in Canada coming to the Swan City in May, The Royal Bank Cup has hired on local students to assist the host committee in ensuring the success of the cup. Their role as Co-Event managers is to work along side the Hosting committee to assist them in any way possible.

Adam Finch and Yuri Smith have both grown up in Grande Prairie and more importantly around the rinks and local ponds of the Peace Region. Adam and Yuri attend Grande Prairie Regional College; both second year business students and are Financial and General Management Majors, respectively. They bring passion, desire and enthusiasm to the tournament which is just what will be needed for making this undoubtedly the most successful cup ever.

Yuri explains, “This is one of the best opportunities of my life. I am extremely enthused about this position and am passionate about making the 2004 RBC as successful as possible.” Adam Adds that, “not only is this exceptional life and work experience, it really helps us with our transition from school to the professional world.”

The key to their success will not only be thru their knowledge and contacts in the hockey world and community alike, but also in their love of sport, and the education which they are presently receiving in at GPRC.

Grant Menzies, President and Chair of the RBC 2004 host committee comments that, “Yuri and Adam will do a great job for our committee. We interviewed some very talented candidates and we are very pleased it worked out for both of them. Together with our hundreds of volunteers, we’re looking forward to working with Yuri and Adam and have every confidence they will do their utmost towards the success of this National Event. ”Rob Litwinski of Hockey Canada adds that, "Hockey Canada is excited to see that one of our events has created this type of opportunity locally for these two gentlemen. Having full time staff at the local level is a great resource for us at Hockey Canada as well. We look forward to working with Adam and Yuri over the next 2 months, and at the event in May.”

The Royal Bank Cup 2004 is not only a Hockey tournament, but also a chance for Grande Prairie to showcase its people, community and their excellent hockey program, to the rest of Canada.

In addition to the weeklong hockey tournament there will also be many other activities going on in the weeks prior to, and during the Cup. Just to name a few, there will be an on-site interactive games and memorabilia area, the worlds Longest Street Hockey Game, The Storm Shelter (Closed circuit live audio/video feed, beer gardens, and Live entertainment) as well as Coaching Clinics, Guest Speakers and much more.
