Canada Will Face USA on Monday, January 5th in Gold Medal Game at 2004 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship in Finland

HELSINKI, FINLAND - Canada’s National Junior team will face USA in the gold medal game of the 2004 IIHF World Junior Championship on Monday, . The game will be carried live on TSN/RDS with a 30 minute pre-game show beginning at 11:30am ET / 8:30 am PT, with puck drop at 12noon ET/ 9am PT.

The official web site of Hockey Canada, www.hockeycanada.ca will be providing in-depth information during the gold medal game, including real-time scoring, enabling those at work to follow along ‘live’. www.hockeycanada.ca will also have links where fans can listen to the game ‘live’ via the internet.

www.hockeycanada.ca is also the place for Team Canada fans to ‘email your favorite player’, where over 4,000 emails have been received to date and the well-wishes passed on to the Team Canada players.

Canada beat the Czech Republic 7-1 in its semi-final match up on Saturday, while USA beat Finland by the score of 2-1 in the other semi-final game on Saturday. In Canada’s semi-final game, Jeff Carter had two goals, while five other players lit the lamp to give Canada the 7-1 lead. The Canadian line of Brent Burns-Carter- Ryan Getzlaf line was Canada's top producing trio, with five points.

Canada has won the gold medal ten times in the history of the IIHF World Junior Championship, most recently in 1997. With Canada guaranteed to receive a medal on Monday, Canada has been the only country to receive a medal in each of the last six World Junior Championships. Canada received a silver medal in last year’s World Junior Championship final, which was held in Halifax, Nova Scotia, after losing to Russia 3-2.

TSN will televise the gold medal game of the 2004 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge from St. John's, Newfoundland, on a tape delay basis. The U-17 gold medal game, which will be played on Sunday, Jan. 4th, will be aired on Monday, Jan. 5 at 3:00pm ET / 12noon PT, immediately following the World Junior Hockey Championship Gold Medal Game from Finland.
