The Lennoxville Cougars could not come back from being down by two goals early in the first period of their third game in the Royal Bank Cup, as the Camrose Kodiaks defeated them by a score of 4-1.

Camrose controlled the majority of the game, firing 30 shots on the Cougars goaltender Jean-Frederik Mckay.

While the Cougars could only register 18 shots on Kodiaks’ goaltender Glenn Fisher in the game, five of which came in the third period.

“We try not to let teams get a lot of shots and if they do get any shots it’s from the outside. That’s what we have prided ourselves on all year long, is keeping the shots down,” said Justin Taylor from the Kodiaks.

The Kodiaks registered their first goal when Dan Bertram went five-hole on Mckay from the left of his goal.

The Kodiaks scored again at 15:29 of the first. Taylor put the puck past Mckay from on a shot from the left side of the net and put it passed Mckay who didn’t seem to see it.

After scoring two goals, the Camrose Kodiaks gave up a power-play goal with 20 second left in the period to the Cougars bring them with in one goal, but it wouldn’t make a difference.

In the second period, it was Taylor, who was standing in the slot, receiving a pass from Jordan Chomack and ripped a shot past Mckay for his second of the afternoon.

“Chomack, he did some hard work out there. Our line we call ourselves the lunch pail line sometimes, because sometimes we go grind it out and we can dangle it or play either way, today both those goals came from hard work,” said Taylor.

The third period was all Kodiaks and they put the game away with a goal from Scott Stewart who fired the puck past McKay, who appeared not to have seen it.

Camrose now sits at 2-1 with their final round robin game coming Thursday night against the Humboldt Broncos, while Lennoxville, who fell to 2-1, will face the Wellington Dukes Thursday as well.
