Canada's National Women's Team Gathering for First Time Since Salt Lake City Gold Medal Win

CALGARY, AB - Head Coach Karen Hughes and the Canadian Hockey Association announced on Monday Canada's National Women's Team development camp schedule and the rosters for the Red/White games which will take place in Vaughan, ON from October 8-13, 2002.

The development camp will mark the first time that members of Canada's National Women's team will gather on-ice since winning Olympic gold in Salt Lake City on . Forty of Canada's top women's hockey players, including 18 of the 20 members of Canada's 2002 Women's Olympic Team, will attend the development camp. 2002 Olympians not attending the camp are defence Geraldine Heaney, who retired from international competition following the Olympic Games, and forward Hayley Wickenheiser, who is finalizing details that will have her playing overseas for the 2002-2003 season.

Practices and Red/White games are all open to the public, free of charge. All ice-times will take place at the Sports Village, 2600 Rutherford Rd, in Vaughan, ON.

Canada is confirmed to play in two international events during the 2002-2003 season: the 2002 4 Nations Cup (Canada, Finland, Sweden and USA) in Kitchener, ON from November 6-10, 2002 and the 2003 IIHF World Hockey Championship in Beijing, China from April 2-8, 2003. Canada's first game at the 4 Nations Cup will be on Wednesday, November 6 at 7:30pm in Kitchener, ON (ticket information: 1-800-265-6368/519-745-0303).
