Mike Ribeiro of The Montreal Canadiens Added to Canada's National Junior Team Selection Camp Roster

CALGARY, AB - The Montreal Canadiens have made centreman Mike Ribeiro of Montreal, QC, available to attend Canada' National Junior Team selection camp, December 12-17, 1999 in Kitchener, ON, the Canadian Hockey Association, Canadian Hockey League and the Montreal Canadiens announced Monday.

With the addition of Ribeiro, the selection camp roster currently stands at 33 players who will attend the National Junior Team selection camp. Thirty two players were named to the selection camp roster on December 1 at three media conferences across Canada, as well as on the official web site of the CHA: www.canadianhockey.ca. Any further additions to the selection camp roster must be made prior to the start of camp, December 12.

"We are extremely pleased that the Canadiens have made Mike available to attend our selection camp," said Claude Julien, Head Coach of Canada's National Junior Team. "We are looking forward to the selection camp, and the coaching staff knows that there will be competition at every position at camp."

Ribeiro was chosen by the Canadiens in the 2nd round, 45th overall in the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. He was top offensive player for Rouyn-Noranda in the QMJHL in 1998-99, gathering 157 points, including 67 goals, in 69 games. Ribeiro was named rookie of the year, personality of the year and named to the QMJHL All-Star team in 1997-98 after scoring 125 points in 67 games. In 19 games for the Canadiens this season, Ribeiro has one goal and one assist.

Canada's National Junior Team's selection camp opens on December 12 at the Kitchener (ON) Memorial Auditorium. Canada's final roster of 22 players will be finalized on December 17, prior to the team's departure for the 2000 World Junior Championship, which runs from December 25- in Sweden.
