CALGARY, ALBERTA -Twenty-eight players, including three members of Canada's National Women's Team which won gold at the 1999 World Women's Hockey Championship, have been invited to the National Women's Under 22 Team Selection Camp to be held in Montreal at the University de Montreal from August 17-23, head coach Julie Healy announced on Wednesday.

Goaltender Kim St-Pierre, of Châteauguay, QC, and forwards Caroline Ouellette, of Montreal, QC, and Jennifer Botterill, of Winnipeg, MB, all three gold medallists at the 1999 World Women's Hockey Championship, head the list of players invited to the Selection Camp. Twenty-two players will be chosen to comprise the team which will face the USA in three games in Lake Placid, NY on August 25th, 26th and 28th.

The Under 22 Team Program was initiated last year with Canada capturing the Christmas Cup in Germany. The program gives younger players an opportunity to experience international competition, on the international ice surface and to experience everything that international hockey encompasses such as international travel, different playing styles, international officiating, etc.

"The coaching staff is looking forward to working with the talented young women selected for the camp in August," said Julie Healy, Head Coach of the National Women's Under 22 Team. "Selecting the 28 players was extremely difficult due to the number of terrific players from this age group across the country. Selecting the final twenty-two will be even harder as any combination of the players invited would make it possible for us to be successful."

The roster is made up of 3 goaltenders, 10 defencemen and 15 forwards. There are 10 returning players from last year and 18 newcomers. The distribution by province is as follows: Ontario (7), Quebec (7), New Brunswick (4), Alberta (3), British Columbia (2), Saskatchewan (2), Nova Scotia (2) and Manitoba (1).
