Rothesay Netherwood School 6 - Banff Hockey Academy 1

ROTHESAY NETHERWOOD EXPLODES FOR SIX TO KEEP PLAYOFF HOPES ALIVE

by Jesse Pelletier

WINNIPEG, Man. – Brittany Poitras (Saint-André, N.B.) had two goals for Rothesay Netherwood School in a 6-1 win over the Banff Hockey Academy on Day 2 of the 2013 Female World Sport School Challenge.

The win gave Rothesay Netherwood its first victory in the tournament, while Banff Hockey Academy falls to 0-3 and will finish in fourth place in its pool to play in the relegation game Saturday at 10:45 a.m. CT.

Despite being outshot 18-9 after one period of play, Rothesay Netherwood took a 1-0 lead to the dressing room due to the strong play of goaltender Marlene Boissonnault (Dundee, N.B.). She made 38 saves overall.

In the second frame, Rothesay Netherwood made the best of its chances, with goals from Elizabeth MacArthur (Truro, N.S.), Victoria Peterson (Fredericton, N.B.), and Poitras with her second of the game. Brittany Erickson (Banff, Alta.) would reply with Banff’s lone goal of the game.

Rothesay Netherwood would add two more in the third as Chloe Perley (Tobique First Nation, N.B.) and Caitlin McCabe (Renous, N.B.) added singles. MacArthur also picked up an assist on the Perley goal, giving her a goal and two helpers in the game.

Rothesay Netherwood’s McCabe and Banff’s Erickson received the player of the game awards for their teams.

Rothesay Netherwood and Winnipeg’s Shaftesbury Titans will face off in Pool B’s final preliminary game Friday afternoon 3:30 p.m. CT. The winner will play the Okanagan Hockey Academy in Saturday’s 1:45 p.m. CT semifinal. Okanagan clinched first place in Pool A to move to 3-0, with a 6-0 victory over Fort Frances earlier Friday.
