2009 National Women's Under-18 Championship

Alberta  0 -  Quebec  5

SURREY, B.C. – Quebec owned the ice Friday afternoon in Surrey, with Gabrielle Davidson (Pointe-Claire, Que.) snagging four points and Cloé Desjardins (St-Prosper, Que.) stopping all 29 shots sent her way to earn a 5-0 shutout win over Alberta.

But it was Mélodie Daoust (Valleyfield, Que.) who got the ball rolling for Quebec on a power play late in the first period, while Christine Lambert (Thetford-Mines) and Cassandra Poudrier (Terrebonne, Que.) both chipped in with assists.

Quebec power plays continued to be Alberta’s downfall into the second period, with Davidson turning it on and taking advantage of two of them to secure a pair of goals and put her team up 3-0.

Davidon’s hot streak continued into the third, as she helped set up goals by both Alex Lapointe (Mercier, Que.) and Élarie Leclair (Varennes, Que.)., increasing Quebec’s tally to what became the final score.

Despite Quebec’s 2-1 loss to Manitoba on the first day of the tournament, this is the team’s second win of the week and guarantees them a spot in Saturday’s semi-final – and gives them a chance at a medal.
