TEAM B.C. EXPLODES FOR THREE GOALS IN FIVE MINUTES FOR WIN

NAPANEE, ON – First, it was Chrisi Capozzi. Thirty-four seconds later, it was Kelsey Osness’ turn. And, five minutes after that, it was Jaclyn Stapleton.

The members of Team B.C. combined for three goals in just over five minutes to lead their squad to a 3-2 victory over Team Alberta on Thursday morning at the 2008 National Women’s Under-18 Championship.

With the win, B.C. moved to 1-1, while Alberta dropped to 0-2. Both teams have a game left in preliminary action before the medal-round games begin.

Alberta opened the scoring at 13:51 of the first period when Brittany Styner (Calgary, AB/Calgary Flyers, AFFMHL) went forehand to backhand and beat B.C. goaltender Taylor Salisbury (Surrey, BC/Vancouver Fusion). Alberta took a 1-0 lead into the second.

But then the B.C. firing squad went to work, starting with a point shot by Capozzi (Kelowna, BC/Pursuit of Excellence) that found its way into the net. Osness (Kelowna, BC/Kelowna Rockets) then scored her goal on a great shot from the slot. B.C. finished its scoring when Stapleton made a great deke and slid the puck under Alberta goaltender Crystal Patterson (Calgary, AB/Calgary Edge).

Alberta’s second goal came in the third when captain Saige Pacholok (Edmonton, AB/Edmonton Chimos) scored her second goal of the tournament.

Taylor Salisbury (Surrey, BC/Vancouver Fusion) made 36 saves for the win in net.
