Team Alberta vs Host Ontario
By Dave Bisson

The game between Team Alberta and Host Ontario could be described in one word - “Domination”. Ontario controlled every facet of the game from the opening faceoff. First on the forecheck, tough on the draws, aggressive pinching by the defence all contributed to a smothering attack that produced 10 goals in the 1st period. Ontario fired 37 shots at Alberta and without some great saves by the goaltending tandem of Janelle Huls and Tasha Sherbanuk, the score would have certainly been higher. Host
Ontario opened the scoring at 5:52 and the floodgates opened from there. Team Canada member Jennifer Botterill scored the first goal with assists going to Cheryl Pounder and Lauren McAuliffe. Other first period scorers were Haley Irwin and Lauren McAuliffe with 2 each and singles to Hayley McMeekin, Jennifer Butsch, Karen Rickard, Sommer West and Susan Hobson.

The 2nd period wasn’t quite as lopsided as the first period and Ontario added 4 goals to take a 14-0 lead heading into the 3rd period. Scoring for Ontario were Butsch with her 2nd same for Sommer West and Susan Hobson with her 2nd and 3rd of the game. The 3rd period started with Alberta killing off another penalty and they did that successfully and held Host Ontario scoreless until Sommer West scored her 4th goal of the game 6 minutes into the 3rd period. That was the last goal of the game making the final 15-0 for Host Ontario. For those who weren’t at the game and only see the score, Host Ontario didn’t run the score, it was simply a case of one team being that much better than their opponent. Both teams deserve a lot of credit for the way they play the game. Unfortunately these games happen sometimes. Of note: Brigden’s Allison Edgar was in the starting lineup for Host Ontario on Defence and Sarniasports.com will have a post game interview held with Allison tomorrow.

Alberta’s Player of the Game was #21 Trina Slivinski and Host Ontario’s Player of the Game was  Danielle Ashley.
