Shields was under fire for most of the game as the Contacts were outshot 40-14 by Red Deer.

Despite the lopsided shot total, Saskatoon (0-0-1) actually led the game 2-0 after one period, and took a one-goal advantage into the final 20 minutes before Scott Feser pulled the Rebels even 6:16 into the third period.

Nick Glackin scored the other goal for Red Deer (0-0-1), burying the rebound of a Brady Bakke shot late in the second period with the Rebels shorthanded, finally beating Shields, who was 23-for-23 at that point.

Josh Uhrich and Rourke Chartier, on a power play, scored for Saskatoon, which opened up a 2-0 lead 15 minutes in, but directed a grand total of just six shots at Red Deer goaltender Dasan Sydora in the last two periods.

The Contacts are back on the ice at Sobey’s Arena at the Leduc Recreation Centre on Tuesday afternoon to face the Phenix du College Esther-Blondin (12:30 p.m. MT), while the Rebels face the Moncton Flyers in the day’s middle contest (4 p.m. MT).
