2004 National U18 Club Championship

HOST 1 - PACIFIC 4

April 21, 2004
Kenora, ON

In a tough match-up versus the undefeated (2-0) Red Deer Chiefs, the Kenora Stars were desperately trying to earn two points in the tournament standings. Kenora came out flying, but could not capitalize on any of their chances. Red Deer was able to convert on two of theirs to go up 2-0 after one period. The second period was much the same, as Red Deer was able to tally another pair to put themselves ahead comfortably with a 4-0 lead heading into the third period. Kenora managed to keep Red Deer off the score board in the third, and scored a power-play goal of their own. But that was the only goal Red Deer conceded, and even with a five-on-three late in the game, the Red Deer defense shut the door. Much to the home crowd’s dismay, the Red Deer Optimist Chiefs kept their perfect record intact with a 4-1 victory over the Kenora Stars. Kenora now has a record of 1-2 and is sitting tied for third with Toronto and Brandon. Red Deer is tied with Quebec atop the leader board with a perfect 3-0 record. Tomorrow a battle of the unbeatens takes place between Red Deer and Quebec at 15:30.
